North Carolina City and County Management SEMINAR

The North Carolina City and County Management Seminar focuses on topics of interest to city and county managers and administrators. The theme of the 47th annual conference, held in January 2008, was "Celebrating the Past and Preparing for the Future: 100 Years of Local Government Professionalism."

Workshops included "Building a Culture of Ethical Behavior in Your Organization," "Stepping Up to the Plate Without Crossing the Line: A 21st Century Model of Democratic Leadership for Public Executives," and "My Most Experienced People are Retiring: How Do I Build a Succession Plan?" Professor Richard Stillman discussed "The Rise of the City/County Manager Reconsidered" at the opening plenary session, and ICMA Alliance for Innovation President Jim Keene talked about "Building a Legacy: The 21st Century Local Manager" at the closing plenary session. Concurrent session topics included Growth, Communications, Incentives, Water, Citizen Participation, Health Care, Energy Conservation, Collective Bargaining, and Mental Health, Homelessness and Law Enforcement.
