Civil Commitment Conference

This conference addresses issues of importance to counsel appointed to represent respondents in civil commitment cases. Topics at prior conferences have included a discussion of mental illness designed to assist attorneys in communicating with their clients and preparing their case; a review of case law in the commitment field; and an attorney’s obligations in counseling a client on the effects of commitment, including firearm rights, driving privileges, and military service.  For information about other indigent defense education courses, visit our Indigent Defense Education site.
