Jeff Welty joined the School of Government in January 2008. Prior to that, he practiced criminal defense law in Durham, North Carolina. He was also a Lecturing Fellow at Duke Law School, where he taught appellate practice and established Duke's animal law clinic. Welty earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He earned a master's degree in economics and a JD from Duke University, where he was executive editor of Duke Law Journal.
